Stewart Ackerly, Col

Stewart is Chief of Staff at the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC). He previously served as Deputy Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor at the Office of the United States Trade Representative.

Prior to his government service, Stewart was an Associate at Williams & Connolly LLP where his practice focused on international arbitration and commercial litigation. Prior to joining Williams & Connolly, Stewart was a Law Clerk for the Honorable Karen LeCraft Henderson of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

Stewart graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.A. in History and Foreign Affairs, with Distinction, in 2006 and received a J.D. from the University of Virginia in 2011. While a law student, Stewart was the Student Member of the Board of Visitors, an Articles Editor for the Virginia Law Review, and President of the Raven Society. While an undergraduate, Stewart served on the Honor Committee as the Vice Chair of Trials, was a Lawn Resident and Echols Scholar, and was a member of the track team, St. Elmo Hall fraternity, and the Jefferson Literary and Debating Society. He won several awards at the University, including the GrayCarrington Memorial Leadership Award, the Ernest H. Ern Distinguished Student Award, and the Raven Award. Stewart is a member of the College’s Benefactors Society Board.

Stewart and his wife Neha (Commerce ‘08) live in Washington with their sons Neal and Jay.
