The University serves Virginia, the nation, and the world by preparing responsible citizen-leaders; advancing, preserving, and disseminating knowledge; and providing world-class patient care.
All gifts of any kind help secure the University’s place as a premier institution of learning and make it possible for our students, faculty, and researchers to shape a brighter future.
You can give to all 12 schools across Grounds. The possibilities are endless for supporting our students, faculty, and programs. Together, we will find the way forward.
You can join the growing number of alumni and friends who invest now in the University’s future by including UVA as a beneficiary of their wills, charitable trusts, and retirement plans. Gifts like these can offer you and your family significant tax benefits as well as greater financial flexibility in meeting your personal and philanthropic goals.
The Honor the Future campaign, the largest in University history, concluded in 2025, thanks to thousands of loyal supporters. Its impact on students, faculty, facilities, and research reaches across Charlottesville, Wise County, and Northern Virginia as it continues to advance the school in its third century of service to the commonwealth, nation, and world.
In what has become a spring tradition, University students took time out during the last full week of classes to express their gratitude for the financial support that is essential to the student experience on Grounds. More than 1,200 students participated in the Hoos Grateful event at McIntire Amphitheater, hand writing thank-you notes or recording videos to be sent to those who give to UVA.
“A lot of the extras we enjoy on Grounds are because of them,” said Jalen (Col ’28). Participant Laney (Ed ’28) also expressed appreciation for those who give to student clubs—she is active in Special Olympics at UVA, the kinesiology club, Reformed University Fellowship, and the baking club.
Third-year students Sophie and Maddie are both members of College Mentors for Kids, which pairs elementary school students with college mentors. “We are able to make an impact with support from the Parents Fund,” said Sophie. “It’s nice to have a chance to thank the people who help your school.”
Hoos Grateful celebrates those who give to the University and the purpose of philanthropy across Grounds. The event also allows students to reflect on the impact philanthropy has on their UVA experience. Last year, participants wrote more than 4,500 notes and recorded over 150 videos.
Dev (Data Science ’27), who was writing notes to those who give to the School of Data Science, reflected on what area of UVA he would choose to support. “I’d give to Athletics,” he said, “to a smaller sport like golf or squash.”
When asked what she would like to say to those who support UVA, Kayla (Col ’26) talked about the impact of alumni, friends, and families on the University. “My parents went to UVA—they’re giving and encouraging future leaders in policy and business. Their support helps other people realize their dreams.” Kayla mentioned her own contributions to the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA and UVA Women’s Center Food Pantry.
Third-year student in the College of Arts & Sciences, Mutri, shared her thoughts on the positive nature of thanking others and being grateful, “I guess when I do something and people appreciate it, I feel good,” she said. “It gives people a happy feeling, psychologically and all over. Making an impact on others is a meaningful part of life. I like creating kindness.”
Hoos Grateful is organized by the University Annual Giving and Stewardship team.
