Driven To Serve
Casey Balamut (Ed ’18) holds an important distinction among UVA alumni. A recent graduate of the School of Education and Human Development, she was part of the University’s inaugural cohort of Blue Ridge Scholars. Established by John Griffin (McIntire ’85) in 2014, the Blue Ridge Scholarship program benefits undergraduate students with exceptional promise and significant financial need.
Balamut, a kinesiology major and aspiring physician’s assistant, discovered her calling in high school when her mother was diagnosed with cancer. The Naples, Florida native has since channeled her desire to help others into service opportunities at Madison House, UVA Children’s Hospital, and other University-related organizations. Without the support of her Blue Ridge Scholarship, Balamut likely would have not been able to attend UVA. She credits the University’s loyal donor community with giving her the opportunity to pursue her academic dreams.
