The Heart of Research – Daria Skwarzynska
UPDATE - JANUARY 2023
A Young Investigator Who’s Going Places
Daria Skwarzynska continues to make progress in her educational career. In September 2022, Skwarzynska, a Ph.D. student in the Department of Neurology, was awarded a Young Investigator Award from the American Epilepsy Society (AES). This competitive award recognizes 20 young investigators conducting basic, translational, or clinical epilepsy research. Her abstract, titled “Lactate Inhibits Seizures via Lactate Receptor, HCA1R,” was selected from over 1,300 submissions for this honor.
The society offers this award for first authors of highly-rated abstracts as a way to support and encourage promising early career investigators conducting research in basic or clinical neuroscience related to epilepsy.
