Excellence Rising

We must sustain initiatives that strengthen both sides of the academic enterprise. Resources to promote close student-faculty interaction and recruit and retain distinguished faculty are central to both the distinctive UVA student experience and the University's reputation for academic rigor.

PRIORITIES

Gifts to Academic & Faculty Excellence support four main areas, all directly connected to students and faculty:

• Center for Teaching Excellence
  Exceptional teaching is critical to student success. The center's services enhance faculty and graduate teaching assistants' teaching abilities and professional development. A valuable asset for faculty, CTE produces world-class educational experiences for our students.
• USOAR
  Across disciplines, faculty make scholarly contributions and discoveries that expand UVA’s research influence. The Undergraduate Student Opportunities in Academic Research program matches students with faculty investigators as they search for solutions and new ways to understand our ever-changing world.
• Advising
  Advising combines career counseling and personal coaching with connections to mentors and internship opportunities. This comprehensive approach to advising gives our students a wide range of resources to make the best use of their time at the University.
• Bicentennial Professors Fund
  The Board of Visitors committed funding from the Strategic Investment Fund to create the Bicentennial Professors Fund, which has generated strong support for faculty recruitment and retention. Gifts of over $5 million paid within five years receive a 100% presidential match to create the remaining four University Professorships. Learn more.
