The University serves Virginia, the nation, and the world by preparing responsible citizen-leaders; advancing, preserving, and disseminating knowledge; and providing world-class patient care.
All gifts of any kind help secure the University’s place as a premier institution of learning and make it possible for our students, faculty, and researchers to shape a brighter.
You can give to all 12 schools across Grounds. The possibilities are endless for supporting our students, faculty, and programs. Together, we will find the way forward.
You can join the growing number of alumni and friends who invest now in the University’s future by including UVA as a beneficiary of their wills, charitable trusts, and retirement plans. Gifts like these can offer you and your family significant tax benefits as well as greater financial flexibility in meeting your personal and philanthropic goals.
Through Honor the Future, the Campaign for the University of Virginia, we are building on our strong foundations to support the president’s vision: to become the best public university by 2030 and one of the very best in the world.
OVERVIEW
For years, resources for student advising were scattered around Grounds, which was challenging for students. UVA Advising combines career counseling and personal coaching with connections to alumni mentors and internship opportunities. This approach allows greater access to vital services and a wide range of resources to prepare students for UVA’s demanding academic environment. These resources are essential for low-income, first-generation, and transfer students.
Dathel and John Georges of New Orleans—parents of two UVA students—realized that Advising needed a home. The Dathel and John Georges Student Center, housed on the second floor of Clemons Library, is the direct result of the Georges’ shared vision with the University and its commitment to the student experience.
The center provides a full spectrum of services that support students where they need it the most.
Future plans include adding programs to help students learn more about valuable opportunities and support. The center will build upon its success and fulfill its promise as the nucleus of the Advising initiative—where creative advising approaches and ever more promising student opportunities are given room to flourish.
The University remains committed to providing the critical tools for students to succeed beyond the classroom. Gifts supporting the center can range from annual operating funds to named endowments for professional positions, as well as to funding student assistants who help guide their peers through the advising process. The center also offers spaces with naming opportunities to honor leadership gifts. Please make a gift to support Advising today.
The Center for Teaching Excellence is key to UVA’s extraordinary culture of learning and student-faculty interaction. With services that enhance faculty and graduate teaching assistants' teaching and professional development, CTE keeps alive the magic that occurs when impassioned teachers challenge bright students in the classroom and beyond. Your support for CTE will ensure its success.
Gifts to the Bicentennial Professors Fund have helped recruit and retain outstanding faculty, which is one of the Honor the Future Campaign's top fundraising priorities and is critically important to the University’s future prominence.
Close student-faculty interaction is at the heart of USOAR, or Undergraduate Student Opportunities in Academic Research. Through USOAR, students obtain paid research experience—working 5-10 hours a week—and the chance to build strong and thoughtful relationships with faculty.
