UVA Parents Program

Enhancing the Student Experience

OVERVIEW

The UVA Parents Program enhances the student experience through annual gifts from parents of current and former students. Directed by the UVA Parents Committee, the Parents Program supports student clubs and cultural events, academic enhancement programs and career services, health and wellness initiatives, and class dinners and traditions that enrich student life across Grounds.

PRIORITIES

Through gifts to the Parents Fund, the Parents Program directly enhances student life through three core priorities:

  • Parents Program Grants
Students, student organizations, and University departments are invited to apply for Parents Program Grants each fall, with funding decisions announced during Family Weekend. These grants provide vital resources for programs, projects, and services that strengthen student life. Last year, we awarded more than $500,000 to over 135 student clubs, organizations, and departments—supporting opportunities that foster community, leadership development, and personal growth.
  • Student Affairs
Unrestricted support for the Division of Student Affairs ensures that UVA can continue to meet the current and emerging needs of students. From well-being and mental health resources to academic support, career development, housing, leadership programs, cultural engagement, and UVA’s most beloved traditions, Student Affairs is central to creating an inclusive, supportive environment where students can thrive—now and in the future.
  • Big Investments
Big Investments represent larger gifts to the University—typically $100,000 or more, often paid over one to three years. These strategic, high-impact commitments support key University and Presidential priorities. Examples of initiatives we have funded in the past include The Cavalier Fund, The Applied Learning Fund, The Basic Needs Fund, Tomorrow’s Teachers Fund, student safety and security projects, the Shannon Library renovation, and the new Student Health and Wellness Center. These investments help sustain UVA’s commitment to student success and academic excellence.

Making a Big University Seem Small

UVA’s excellence in academics is matched by its distinctive student experience. The UVA Parents Program is dedicated to providing a margin of excellence to make the student experience even better.
