Greetings, fellow Wahoo Parents!
Thank you for your interest in the Parents Fund Committee (PFC).
Made up of a diverse group of parents of current students and alumni, the PFC enhances the student experience for all UVA undergraduates. With members hailing from around the world, our group meets twice a year to learn, connect, and support a variety of student organizations, initiatives, and scholarships.
Last year, the Parents Fund Committee allocated more than $1.2 million to organizations spanning the arts, athletics, culture, religion, science, technology, safety, wellness, and leadership, including a $300,000 gift to the Student Health and Wellness Center which is opening in Spring 2021. We also provided essential support to the Office of Student Affairs, the Office of the President, UVA’s Advising initiative, and the University Career Center. We are proud of our efforts to make the undergraduate experience at UVA truly extraordinary.
In addition to helping undergraduates make the most of their time at the University, the PFC actively helps shape the lives of students during our bi-annual committee meetings. Each fall, we review and approve grant proposals covering a wide range of topics and interests. Every spring, we award the Gilbert J. Sullivan and Gordon C. Burris scholarships to rising third-year students who demonstrate citizenship, leadership, academic achievement, and financial need. Last year, the PFC created a new scholarship, the Bicentennial Scholarship Fund, in honor of two beloved and long-time University administrators.
PFC members enjoy several other benefits. Both the Fall and Spring gatherings provide us the opportunity to hear directly from students who have benefitted from the committee’s support. Our meetings feature updates from key University leadership, giving us a chance to learn about UVA’s strategic initiatives and what’s happening across Grounds. And they also allow us to connect with other like-minded parents who are committed to providing students with outstanding extracurricular opportunities.
We value all gifts to the Parents Fund. Membership in the Parents Fund Committee is reserved for families who give $2,500 per year or more. We know that there are plenty of ways to support this outstanding University; however, we consider our group to be crucial to cultivating the UVA undergraduate experience. So much of the learning that takes place in college happens outside of the classroom, and the Parents Fund Committee supports organizations and initiatives that provide these valuable experiences.
