Hoos Connected

The transition to college and a new community can be difficult and overwhelming for many UVA students. Hoos Connected helps by placing students in a small group of 6-10 students who engage with one another weekly to discuss complex topics with two trained upperclassmen to guide the conversation. Students have the opportunity to connect, meet a broad array of fellow students, create a support system, and build an important skillset that will continue to serve them. The program has been so successful on Grounds that it is now being piloted at high schools and peer institutions alike to encourage growth, empathy, and social emotional learning for the next generation of citizen leaders.

Laptop & Technology Initiative

During COVID-19, a shift to digital learning became necessary for the safety of students. However, not all students had access to technology outside of public spaces. Recognizing this challenge, University leadership swiftly directed resources from The Virginia Fund to supply essential technology to these students, allowing them to continue pursuing their education without incurring additional financial strain. This swift action is a testament to the power of The Virginia Fund to meet the immediate and unanticipated needs of the institution during periods of rapid change or unprecedented challenge.
